Hello Beautiful People!
My goodness can you believe school is back in session?? Just kidding, not for me! So strange to think this will be the first year ever that “Back To School” is no longer relevant to me. While I do miss the excitement of new classes, friends, and catching up after Summer Vacay – I am definitely happy to not have to worry about any tests, homework, etc. this year!
This Summer went by fast, too fast, and soon we will be be in the midst of fall! I can’t wait – hopefully here in FL we’ll have a little relief from this scorching summer heat. So anyways, while this Summer has gone by quickly – it hasn’t come without it’s usual round up of life lessons. With everything that’s happened (and the places I’ve gone) this past Summer I have most certainly learned a lot! Below you can find 5 things I learned during Summer 2017.
Never Be Afraid To Make New Friends
As I’ve mentioned before, starting off this Summer I reached out to someone in hopes of making a new friend – and it worked! As outgoing as I am I have always been afraid to “make the first move” especially in making new friends. Just as we have a fear of rejection in dating it is just as real in our friendly relationships. I decided to take a chance, go for it, and ended up making an amazing new friend whom I have so much in common with! So don’t be afraid to be the first one to text and ask to meet for coffee or if you meet someone and hit it off don’t be afraid to ask if they would want to hang out sometime. Chances are there are plenty of people out their looking for a friend just like you!
Try Something New (Even If It’s Terrifying)
As I mentioned earlier in the Summer, I had the opportunity to attend a blogging conference called BlogHer. I had never attended a conference like this before and the idea of it was nerve-racking! You mean that I will actually meet people in REAL LIFE?? That’s right folks blogging isn’t just behind the screen anymore, to be successful you have to get out there, make friends/connections, and show yo self to the world! (YIKES) All in all it was a wonderful experience and I learned a lot, made new friends, and most importantly had fun. You can read more about my experience at BlogHer17 HERE.
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Is Dangerous… but worth it (This one’s for you shop-a-holics)
For those of you that have participated in this amazing, heaven-sent, omg sale you know exactly what I’m talking about. (If you haven’t I’m sure you think I’m exaggerating) This is the first year I’ve shopped the Nordstrom Sale, I also just recently started shopping at Nordstrom’s in general, considering I just began a full-time job 8 months ago so a broke college kid couldn’t really afford name-brand. (even when it’s on sale) Now that I’ve graduated college and am beginning to find my own style Nordie’s is my BFF.
This year I shopped the N-Sale online and In Stores and spent WAY to much money. Honestly I’m happy the sale finally ended so I can save a little moolah for my upcoming trip to – yep you guessed it – Germany! (More to come on that) But anyways – if you’re looking for designer clothes at a great deal – look out for the next Nordstrom Sale (which from what I read should be sometime around December) I seriously love absolutely everything I bought and can’t wait to get the chance to wear it all! My favorite purchase was these Sam Edelman booties you can buy HERE. Seriously the softest leather shoes I’ve ever worn.
It’s Okay To Take A Break
Since March I have been blogging away and absolutely loving it; however, with everything going on in my personal life over the summer it made it impossible to keep up. I ended up taking about a month long hiatus and it was the best thing I could’ve done. I didn’t want to post content simply for the fact of posting – I want to make sure each of my posts has a point and isn’t a yawn. I was down on myself for taking time off and afraid that I would never get back into it. But now as the dust has settled and I am getting back to my normal life I have picked it back up and am more motivated than ever.
When you have a goal that you are working towards, it’s still important to not lose yourself in the process. Sometimes taking a small break from whatever you were working on can be hugely beneficial to your mental health and your long term goals. We are all human and we only have so much time, energy, and patience. It’s important to find a healthy balance between your goals and your personal health – and if you have to take a break to get yourself back on track, there’s nothing wrong with that!
Experiences over Shopping (This one is so hard)
If there is one thing that I strongly believe in, traveling is worth way more than material possessions. As a 22 year old recent grad I don’t have tons of disposable income; however, I do have enough income to do things that I enjoy. (So long as I budget properly) This being the first time I have been able to buy myself things with my own money (like ever) it’s so hard to not splurge on the things that I want. But what I want more than things are experiences, and experiences aren’t free. Next Monday I will be saying Auf Wiedersehen Amerika and heading on a flight to Germany to see my boyfriend. This flight came with a hefty price tag of $1200…. YIKES.
Had I not saved my money and budgeted properly in the past, I may have had a closet with a fantastic wardrobe but I wouldn’t be able to afford this experience to jet off to Europe. And even if you are a shopaholic like me, make yourself a travel fund that you put money into every week. (Even if you can only afford $20 a week after a year that’s $1000 – hello vacation!) You never know when you will be invited on your next adventure and the last thing you want is to have to miss out due to budget.
So sad that sweet summer is over but I’m ready for all the adventures that fall has to offer. I’m off to Germany Monday and I’m excited to see my boyfriend and for some cooler weather. To keep up on my travels follow along with my instagram and insta stories, that’s where i’ll be posting the most while I’m away!
Goodbye tan lines, hello pumpkin spiced lattes!
