After months of careful thought I have finally made a decision that is going to change my life.
Is it the right decision? That’s something I won’t know for a while but I do know it’s something I have to do.
Well… here it is.
This American girl is moving to Europe!
Germany to be more specific. I am moving to Germany to live with my boyfriend who recently had to move back due to visa issues. (Which you can read about HERE)
Trust me, this is not a decision I have taken lightly, and yes it absolutely scares the hell out of me – I’ve decided to take the plunge and I couldn’t be happier!
When’s the big move?
January 13, 2018. In three months I will pack my suitcases, say my goodbyes, and hop on a plane to a country I’ve been to only twice in my life. But I can say in those two times I went I fell in absolute love.
It’s not going to be easy, I’m definitely going to miss my friends and family a ton. And I’ve already began applying for jobs before I go over in a hopes that someone gives me a shot. There are many English speaking companies that I can work for with the degree I’ve obtained from college here.
I was so worried that I may have to go over there and get a job cleaning toilets or doing something totally different from the degree I just spent four years working towards. After speaking with some locals I realized not only can I move over here and have a happy life but I can move over here and have a career! I can work in the field that I just learned so much about.
This made me ecstatic because I always thought I might have to give up a career for an opportunity at living abroad, but now I’ve learned I can do both. Hopefully everything works out and I can find a job before moving to Germany. This would make the process of moving/obtaining a visa that much easier.
I can stay in Germany for up to 90 days with no Visa but after this I would have to leave for 90 days before I can come back again. So having a job before I go alleviates the fear that I might fail and have to leave for 3 months before trying all over again.
Moving to Germany is a huge step and I’m so excited for it. Now it’s time for me to roll up my sleeves and start to prepare! I can’t bring much with me when I first go so I’ll have to decide what is/isn’t important. It’s also going to be FREEZING when I get there in January so I need to prepare for that!
