Here is the story of what happened to my boyfriend, René, with his Visa.
Just a little back ground: Rene had lived in the United States for 7 years with his parents. Graduated high school there and was currently attending collage for his AA degree.
About a 4 months ago my boyfriend went to Germany to get his student visa renewed. When he went to the embassy the clerk told him that whoever had done his visa paper work two years ago didn’t input it into the computer correctly which meant according to their records he had been illegally in the United States for two years. (Which obviously wasn’t true as he was going to college here completely on the record)
Because of this “illegal” status the clerk then told him he unfortunately had to give him a FIVE year penalty that he can not reenter the United States. (Under no circumstances – not for vacation or anything) Which is obviously crap because the embassy even stated it was their fault. We’re hoping for a retraction on at least the 5 year penalty because let’s be honest that’s some BS.
Long story short he is stuck in Germany with none of his things unable to even say his final goodbyes to his friends and family. I guess that’s U.S. immigration for ya…. (If anyone has had/heard of this type of thing happening to yourself or some one you know shoot me an email. I would love to hear your story.)
Luckily I was able to go visit him for a month in August which settled my panicked feelings a little, and now I have officially decided to move there this coming January! You can read all about my decision HERE.
